Welcome to the official Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Education High School website! Thomas A. Edison is a unique school that offers strong academic and career and technical education programs. We provide a real college and career ready institute. By providing a challenging and engaging curriculum, we lay a strong foundation in core academic subjects while offering specialized Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
The English program is a four-year sequence offering Regents track courses in grades 9 through 12. Special programs include grade level honor classes; high school extension programs offering college credit courses; drama classes; and reading and writing acceleration classes. In addition to the study of literature and oral, written communication skills, each course offers specialized units that address such areas as media study, myth, and folklore, etc. A significant term project will be required in the spring term.
The first mathematics course students usually take is Geometry. Students will have the opportunity to make conjectures about geometric situations and prove in a variety of ways, both formal and informal, that their conclusion follows logically from their hypothesis. This course is meant to employ an integrated approach to the study of geometric relationships. followed by Algebra II/Trigonometry, which is the capstone course for the three units of credit required for a Regents diploma. This course is intended to continue developing alternative solution strategies and algorithms.
The first Science course students would usually take is Living Environment if they haven't already, then followed by Earth Science, Chemistry, then Physics. In these science courses, students will learn about the nature of the world and the processes that shape it. They will also learn about the nature of matter and energy, and about the interactions between them.
Students will take Global History 1 - 4 within the span of grades 9 and 10, then moving on to US History, and finally Government/Economics. These courses can teach students about the history of the world, the United States, and the way in which the government works.
This course knowledge, motivation, and skills in Goal Setting, Decision Making, Mental Health Emotional Health, Social Health, Nutrition, Fitness, Weight Management, Stress Management, Communication, Relationships, Substance Use, and Abuse Prevention, Safety, First Aid, and Family Living.
